One of the highlights for Messiah Publishing House this September 2025 was the Manila International Book Fair Talk, held last September 10 at the SMX Convention Center. The engaging session had valuable insights on two important topics: Helping Children Overcome Reading Challenges and Differentiated Paths to Phonemic Awareness.
Supporting Struggling Readers
The first portion of the talk by Ms. Ma. Soledad Dagale focused on the challenges children face when learning to read. She explained how some learners benefit more from multi-sensory teaching methods, which engage multiple senses to reinforce understanding. Breaking down lessons into smaller, manageable steps was another strategy she recommended to help children focus better.

She concluded with a powerful reminder: “A book is a friend you open again and again.”
Building Good Reading Habits
In her talk, Ms. Miriam Dela Cruz emphasized the importance of weaving reading into children’s daily lives. She encouraged parents to help children see books not just as study tools, but as part of their lifestyle. Practical advice included limiting screen time and offering alternatives like puzzles, crafts or storybooks, creating a healthier balance for children.
Another key takeaway was the value of family reading time. Setting aside moments to read together strengthens both learning and family bonds. As she passionately said, “Reading is not just taught, it’s lived!”

The talk brought together educators and parents eager to discover new approaches to inspire a love for reading. By combining practical strategies with heartfelt encouragement, they empowered participants to nurture children’s reading journeys in meaningful, lasting ways.
